Meet the SROs: Arron Arreguin and Tyree Kirby

Officers Will Be at Healthy Streets - Healthy People Event This Saturday
Two members of the Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) will officially become part of the Charlottesville City Schools community this August as school resource officers (SRO). Officer Arron Arreguin will join the Charlottesville High School staff and Officer Tyree Kirby will join the Charlottesville Middle School staff.
The future SROs will be doing outreach in the community this summer to meet students and families, including this Saturday, May 30, at Healthy Streets - Healthy People, 11am-3pm at Washington Park. They’ll also be at Westhaven Day in August and back-to-school activities.
Arron Arreguin, CHS
An officer with CPD since 2016, Arreguin has devoted his career to being the kind of officer he wished he’d known while growing up in West Virginia. There, he witnessed negative interactions between police and his father, who had mental health challenges.
“My reason for getting into law enforcement was to help kids, and to make sure they don’t have that bad experience that I had with law enforcement,” Arreguin said. “What's a better role to do that than as an SRO?”
Arreguin, who is expecting his first child in a few weeks, looks forward to getting to know the CHS community and cheering on the Black Knights in all their academic, athletic, and arts endeavors.

Tyree Kirby, CMS
Kirby is already a familiar face to many CCS families–as an assistant coach for the CHS football team, but also, once upon a time, as a CHS student. (He ultimately graduated from Monticello High School).
Prior to becoming a police officer in 2023, Kirby was a life coach who taught yoga, meditation, and mindfulness.
“I have a passion for uplifting youth and the well-being of our community,” he said. “I see this role as an SRO aligning directly with my personal and professional career path.”
Kirby is not the only one in his family with a new role at Charlottesville City Schools this fall–his son will also be starting in preschool at the Charlottesville Early Learning Center.
